Etymology
From earlier nosthril, from Srednji Engleski nosethirl ~ nosethril (and other forms), from Stari Engleski nosþȳrel, equivalent to Afrikans. Compare Old Frisian nosterle (“nostril”), modern West Frisian noaster (“nostrill”). Compare also Middle Low German noster (“nostril”), from Pra-Germanski *nustriz (“nostril”).
