Od Latinski Iūpiter (“father Jove”), od Proto-Italic *djous patēr (literally “sky father”) (cognate with Antički Grčki Ζεῦ πάτερ (Zeû páter, “father Zeus”)), od *djous (“day, sky”) + *patēr (“father”), od Proto-Indo-European *dyḗws (literally “the bright one”), od *dyew- (“to be bright, day sky”), i *ph₂tḗr (“father”). Jupiter
- (astronomy) The fifth and by far the largest planet in the Solar System, a gas giant, represented by the symbol ♃ in astronomy. Jupiter is known for its Great Red Spot and many moons including the Galilean moons.
- (Roman mythology) The King of the Gods, also called Jove. Equivalent to the Greek Zeus, Jupiter was one of the children of Saturn. Kao vrhovni bog rimskog panteona, Jupiter je bio bog groma, munja i oluja, i prikladno nazvan bog svetlosti i neba.
