Etymology 1

Perhaps cognate with (“side; oblique”), (“partial; one-sided”), (“glib-tongued; insincere”) (Schuessler, 2007).

Based on Old Vietnamese data, Gong (2019) proposes the additional preinitial *tə- to the Baxter-Sagart reconstruction.
